Here are some fun and engaging ideas to help reduce screen time with children:
Outdoor Adventures: Go for nature walks, hikes, bike rides, or visit local parks. Create a scavenger hunt to make it more exciting!
Creative Crafts: Encourage arts and crafts like painting, drawing, or making DIY projects. Try making homemade playdough or slime!
Board Games & Puzzles: Gather the family for game nights with board games or puzzles. It's a great way to bond and have fun!
Music & Dance: Have a family dance party, play musical instruments, or create a karaoke night. Music and movement are great for creativity and exercise.
Sports & Physical Activities: Encourage playing sports like soccer, basketball, or tennis. Set up a mini obstacle course in the backyard.
Storytelling & Role-Playing: Create and tell stories together. Use costumes or props for fun role-playing activities.
Science Experiments: Conduct simple science experiments at home. Make a volcano with baking soda and vinegar or explore the wonders of static electricity.
Remember, the goal is to make these activities enjoyable and part of your daily routine. By offering a variety of engaging options, children will naturally spend less time in front of screens. Have fun exploring these activities together! 🌟
The Imagination Initiative
Screen time is a major issue for young families - with studies showing that it impacts a child’s development, social skills and imagination.
The Imagination Initiative was established by Bloomsbury Lane Toy Shoppe in 2024 as a way to partner with local businesses to establish screen free zones for children to play without a need for cell phones and tablets.
We are proud to work with businesses in the community and are always looking to expand our group. If you are interested in joining or helping us support this cause, please inquire below.
